EN5903: Mini Research Project

This is a 4 credit module spanning first and second semesters. Students are required to study a hi-quality research paper and do a 15minute powerpoint presentation on the research content of the paper. Approval of a staff member for the selected paper is required. Student need to explain the following.

  1. What is the research problem addressed in the paper?
  2. How is the problem modeled/analyzed?
  3. What is the solution proposed and the merit of the solution?
  4. What is the result obtained? is it satisfactory?
  5. Proposed developments

EN5905: Design Project

This is a 6 credit module spanning all three semesters. Students are required to perform a substantial technical design. Examples are, hi-quality motor controller, Optimized PCB design, automation solution for an existing industry, centralized control system for isolated plants, power electronic systems design, filter design and implementation (DSP), FPGA implementation, modeling of complex systems, etc.
Some verification for the proper functionality is required, which can be in the form of calculations and/or simulation. Evaluation is based on a final powerpoint presentation and a brief report. Sample reports are available here.

A candidate will choose an appropriate combination of core and optional modules to satisfy the graduation requirement. In addition an industry relevant design project will be carried out by the students to fulfill the graduation requirement.
